Paso Cardenal Antonio Samoré, CL/AR

Enter Argentina, AR

On Wednesday, January 25th I presented myself at the border post of Chile around 7:30, but I learned that it opened only at 8:00. The line of vehicles was very long; waiting at the counter of the immigration then of the customs was consequently. The border post of Argentina is at half an hour of road after the crossing of Paso Cardenal Antonio Samoré 1305 meter high. Of course the same queue was in front of the counters. The whole of the procedures and the road lasted two hours.

I had wished to stop in Villa Angostura Argentinian side. It is a very tourist village. The main street was crammed by vehicles, I did not find a parking bay. After having turned in the adjacent streets I continued my road in the direction of Bariloche. Finally I found a bivouac vis-a-vis the lake on a parking area.

Mirador Lago Steffen

On Thursday, January 26th the visit of Bariloche was short with Central Civico whose architecture is of the Central Europe origin. Of course I made the harvest of documentation in Oficina de Turismo. Then a stop at the La Anonima supermarket to buy fruit and vegetable whose importation is prohibited. The target of the day was Lago Steffen enchased in mountains whose tops are snow-covered. I bivouacked at the watchtower which overhangs Lago Steffen y Martin with 984 meters of altitude. The temperature climbed in the cell at 35°C.

RN#40, Lookout

Friday, January 27th was not an ostentation of visit. I had located Lago Epuyen in the south of Bariloche and of Lago Steffen to remain all the end of the week there; alas the lake was reserved only for a day parking without possibility of bivouac. Disappointed I returned again northwards and I stopped at a lookout on the left side of the RN#40. Nothing amazing. Admittedly the panorama of the mountains is dramatic, but I always seek bivouacs at the edge of water…

Bivouac RN#40 Lookout

Mirador Lago Steffen

On Saturday morning I attended a fairy-like ocher-color sunrise on the mountain opposite of the lookout, picture on the front-cover as well as in the gallery of the horizontal menu above. Having an appointment at the Allianz agency on Monday morning at Bariloche to inform the extension of the insurance of my vehicle, I decided to spend the weekend at the lookout Lago Steffen being ensured of peace for these two days.
