--Two days on road and highway through France, Luxembourg, Germany to go to the border of Denmark
--Seven days to visit Denmark

I left my residence Saturdays June 25 around 11:30 a.m. with as objective arriving at the border of Denmark Sunday evening. I decided to pass through Luxembourg the least expensive cost in Europe to fill the tank with diesel. Then the way was done by the German highways until Flensburg.

The border of Denmark was reached Sunday in the end of midday. By convenience, I stopped in Denmark on the first service area to contact the level of the costs of the country.

The visit of Denmark was circumstantial, it is on the road towards the Northern Cape. The crossing was carried out in seven days to take note of the descendants of the Vikings. The presentation is made according to the geographical entities, Jutland, Fyn, Sjaelland.

Jutland is the septentrional peninsula of Germany. Jutland was cut down by two duchies, Schleswig and Holstein, annexed by Prussia at the end of the 19th century. Two cities were visited, Haderslev and Kolding. Both offer beautiful examples of Danish architecture out of brick.

The castle of Kolding was built to ensure the defence of the southernmost border of Jutland. Built over a hill, it dominates the countryside environment.

The Danish roads and highways are well maintained. Indication does not support any criticism, I never was in difficulty to achieve my goals of visit. Admittedly the GPS and the MapSource software are used as prosthesis of navigation. Traffic is fluid and drivers are courteous.

Fyn, Fyn, is the second island of Denmark by its dimension located between Jutland and Sjaelland to which it is connected by a toll bridge from Nyborg to Halsskov. Have regard to its moderated climate, it is dedicated to agriculture. Odense is the most important city.

The restored native house of HC Andersen is located in an enclosure of nicely decorated old houses. The set contrasts with the modern centre town dedicated to pedestrians and to cyclists. The cathedral Skt Knuds constitutes the other attraction of the city.

The castle of Egeskov in the south of Fyn is on the road to Svendborg. Magnificently restored and maintained by the descendant of its builder in 1554, it is surrounded by water in a very beautiful park. The museum installed in the agricultural buildings exhibits collections of horse-drawn vehicles, veteran cars, motor cycles and planes.

The carpark of centre town are sometimes tree-planted and too narrow for my vehicle. I stationed then in periphery and I used my bicycle. I was never with more than ten minutes of the visits to be carried out. Bicycle circulation is a real happiness due to the installation of cycle tracks as well as the organization of the crossroads for pedestrians and cyclists. Denmark gives a great lesson of user-friendliness between the motorists on the one hand, the pedestrians and the cyclists on the other hand.

Sjaelland is the largest island of Denmark, it enjoys a “southernmost climate”. The northern part of the island gathers the most beautiful castles of Denmark. The capital, KØbenhavn, and the north of the island concentrate the economic activities of all the country. Four cities were visited, Roskilde, HillerØd, HelsingØr and KØbenhavn.

Vikingeskibs Museet, the museum of Viking boats, exposes five  partial carcasses of boats found in the mud of the fjord of Roskilde. This very didactic museum reports life and epopee of the Viking warriors.

The Marguerite Road is a tourist tour which traverses part of the North-West of Sjaelland. I took it from Roskilde until HillerØd. This part curves in the Danish countryside on Western bank of the fjord of Roskilde. I visited several villages as well as the castle of SelsØ.

The castle of Frederiksborg is located at the edge of a lake. Its visit is a true happiness. Three rooms are remarkable, the Rose, the Great Hall and the Chapel.

HillerØd

The castle of Kronborg was the scenery of the Hamlet tragedy by Shakespeare under the name of Elseneur. Built on a peninsula, it keeps the strait of Øresund.

Denmark has a microclimate making its visit, at the end of June, very pleasant. The sky sometimes cloudy in the early morning is quickly sunny, cleaned by the omnipresent wind in this country. Danish, from all ages, benefit the maximum of the sun adopting relaxed cloths in the parks and in the places of interest. Then are frankly stripped on the beaches. The visit of Denmark was a good introduction to the Scandinavian peninsula.
