From the 2005/09/13 to the 2005/09/18 --From Prague to the back base.

This second and last gallop of test before the departure for the journey round the world confirmed the adequacy of the vehicle to the definite needs; some installations will be carried out. To organize them I visited UNICAT by leaving Prague on September 13 to Nuremberg and Bruchsal by the highways E50, E56 and E35. I receipted the confirmation that Webasto has marketed the camper version of the Wallas diesel cooker as of September. I left Dettenheim on September 15 towards MAN- Bresse by the A5 highway and N83 in order to plan the certification of the truck before the annual commitment. Finally I joined the back base in the Var by N75 where I arrived on September 18 end of the trip to Northern Europe.

Many websites are devoted to the Scandinavian countries, they are very well documented. The many guide books give all useful information.
I do not have anything to add, the main things were already known. Simply the landscapes of Norway are dramatic, they justify the journey completely.

Advice: The expensive way towards the Northern Cape to see the midnight sun hypothetically can advantageously be replaced by two excursions.

The cruising of Geirangerfjord to admire it in situ

The fjord seen from the road

A week trip in Lofoten

The port of Moskenes while arriving with the 21 hours ferry

Technological equipment:

The software embarked by the computer to manufacture the pages of my website corresponded to the necessary use.
All the visited countries had either libraries with Internet free access or  Internet cafés. The only problem was in Stockholm and Helsinki where almost the totality of the computers is under Linux. They do not allow the use of scripts of DOS lines. It is necessary to seek computers under Windows, I found them not without difficulties. The practical information gives the name of the Internet cafés which accept the connection of USB key.

The ham radio equipment and the Airmail software enabled me to send each evening a message of “position report” of the location for the overnight. The follow-up of these waypoints by the back base ensured my safety.

The Garmin GPS and the MapSource City Europe software were very useful as aid of navigation for a driver without co-pilot. The digitized voice of the software informed me even when I was to go up on a ferry!

The next stage: A 90 day journey in China

It will be organized with members of “the Association of the Motor homes on the Roads of Silk and the World”. It will be the prelude to trip round the world.
