After eight days of rest in Karon Beach, Phuket Island, I took again the road northwards to head, slowly, towards the border of Cambodia. I stopped to have lunch in edge of sea. After Takua Pa the road curved in green mountains. I forked to find the beach of Pra Pat Hat where I was to spend the night.

Still a driving day, from Ranong the road curved again in green mountains. At midday I stopped for lunch at the Isthmus of Kra. The location being peaceful with a race of boats I decided to bivouac there.

Isthmus of Kra

The Isthmus of Kra south of Chumphon is the narrowest part of land between Asia and the Malaysian peninsula, 44 kilometres. The arm of the sea at the west of the Isthmus of Kra splits Thailand in the east from Myanmar in the west. It is approximately 100 meters wide and extends from Ranong, in the south to Kra Buri in north. As of 1677 Kings of Siam thought of digging a channel. In 1863 Ferdinand de Lesseps visited the area to study the realization of such a project. In the 20th century Japanese then the Chinese and finally American were interested by a project of channel from Nakhon Si Thammarat to Trang.

from 07/10 to 09/10/2008

On 08/10 it was one driving day again with a first stop in Chumphon to do technical shopping then in Khao Pho, a service and rest area on the express way to have lunch. I bivouacked in Prachuap Khiri Khan where I have my practices, Internet and seafood restaurant, "My Prow". This day there was festival, food and togs stalls were on street; with typical dishes, locusts and grubs. I preferred a seafood restaurant.
