On Monday, June 15 I began the long roads, about 1,000 km, to return to take the ferry at Port aux Basques leaving Newfoundland. The weather was always gloomy and the sights on the way still closed for the season, such was the situation of Frenchman's Cove. For the night I bivouacked once again at Long Beach.

To go back to Port aux Basques I stopped at the discovered bivouacs at the time the outward journey; thus no concern, GPS led me to them without difficulty. The highway #1 is not very attended off season. I had breaks at the proposed lookouts , indeed I had a road plan from about 250 to 300 km a day to avoid tiredness; I thus arrived at the beginning of afternoon at the point of the bivouac.

Back to Corner Brook on Wednesday, June 17 was in a beating rain. Bof the highway #1 is without interest. At the exit of Norris Arm I took some pictures of the historic site as well as reproductions of time not so remote. To make the return to Port aux Basques I had to plan one safety day which I spent in Corner Book in the clouds at Captain James Cook Monument at the top of Crow Hill.
The second day was very sunny with a temperature of 24°C! I spent the afternoon to looking for Wifi connection which I did not find. That of Staples and of the Public Library did not function. I was satisfied with a station in self-service into the City Hall.

Early morning on Friday, June 19 I returned in front of the Staples store, bingo Wifi connection was working. After filling up the diesel tanks I took again the T.C.H. #1 to traverse the 223 km towards Port aux Basques where I arrived at the beginning of afternoon after to go to the counter of the ferry. Indeed I had taken a reservation on Internet but I did not have a ticket only the reference of the booking. As for the outward journey it is necessary to be at the counter at 9:45 for a loading at 11:45. I found a bivouac at the entrance of the city shortly after TI on the right side. The day was glaucous.
Il eut un chemin de fer à Terre-Neuve |
The 160 km voyage from Port aux Basque, NL, to North Sydney, NS, lasts from 6 to 8 hours depending on the state of the sea. The boarding started very early and the departure was on time. I have the spleen when the ferry crossed the channel for the open sea.
