The 21/05 I left as of early dawn to reach Jammu after 300 kilometres in the mountain with
the tollgate, the cross through the Tunnel and the rise of the pass. The road
is correct with a good surface except ten much degraded passages. The day was
radiant announcing heat as of Jammu where I arrived around 06:00 pm on the carpark that I had discovered to go, with the same disadvantages. Not having
to look for a bivouac I took my time with two prolonged stops, to have lunch
and to have rest at 4:00 pm |

The 22/05 I left the carpark of Jammu without regrets. To leave the city I helped myself
with the tracklog of the GPS taken at the time of the outward trip. The
roadway is correct except in crossed cities where infrastructures are in
works certainly since many years. At the border of the State of Jammu-Kashmir
and Punjab the Toll Gate was an indescribable traffic jam of trucks, coaches
and cars. Having paid at the Toll Gate before the tunnel I overtook the line
of vehicles not without difficulty. At the time of toll I had specified that
my destination was to Pathankot, I received then three parts of toll
including two parts that I gave to successive controls.
As soon as I crossed the border and that I had entered the State of Punjab,
the mobile made hear its ringing to announce to me that Hutch, the local
operator, wished me the welcome and gave me the telephone numbers of the
embassy of France in New Delhi. Thus the confirmation was given me that
the post-paid PIN card and the rooming were prohibited in Jammu-Kashmir.
I lunched in Dasuya at the entry of the city in the Hotel President. I had
noticed that all the shops of the crossed cities were closed. I was hardly
arrived in the restaurant that a band of excited rowdy characters required of
customers to evacuate the room. A customer took to me amiably by the arm and
told me to leave quietly. Then he discussed with the individuals by indicating
me. We were authorized to have lunch. The customer explained me that Sikhs had
issued one day of closing for a reason which I did not understand.
Not having that 300 km to be drove I stopped in Jalandhar (Jullundur) in
FastFood in a garden on the bypass at the junction with the NH1. I spent there
one hour and half under an arbour. The temperature was to be of 40°C. After
having gone again the way I looked for a bivouac at the exit of Ludhiana, I
should to solve me to stay on a service area around 06:45 pm. |

The 23/05 was the last road day to reach New-Delhi by the four-lane NH1. I must specify that
there is no motorway in India. A National Highway is an express way which
crosses sometimes cities by causing traffic jams. I had envisaged installing
my bivouac in Tourist Camp Qudsia opposite Kashmiri Gate and Inter State Bus
Terminal (ISBT). A signpost indicated ISBT at 33 km then others, thus the road
was signposted. The entry in Delhi is prohibited for Commercial Vehicles. I
took no notice of it and I took the lane for cars by negotiating cautiously a
zigzag barriers under the impassive eye of police!
I thus arrived without difficulty at destination. Alas information taken near
rickshaw men Tourist Camp had not existed any more for at least five years.
The alternative was of going to the parking of Nehru Park which had been
indicated to me by Agnès and Michel Olibo met in Katmandu then later on the
road to Chennai. A rickshaw man proposed me to lead to it what I accepted well
readily. Little before 06:00 pm by broad avenues I reached the site of my
bivouac. The carpark is not very large but there is sufficient place for motor
homes of which my truck. It filled about 06:30 pm with cars of walkers who
left at the night fallen. The temperature dropped gradually to be established
at 28°C around 04:00 am. |

The morning 24/05 was devoted to administrative steps, embassy of Pakistan, the poste restante
of the GPO then the purchase of a New Delhi citymap. I took contact with
Man-Force to know the exact address of the garage in Gurgaon. My correspondent
advised me to come to the head office in New Delhi which is not very far from
Nehru Park. I went there in rickshaw. The afternoon was dedicated to do the
customs clearance of the spare parts which had remained at customs. Mr Sandeep RATHORE
of RK Globals, subsidiary of Force Motors, was a very attentive interlocutor.
He accompanied me at the end of the day back to my bivouac. |
|
The morning of the 25/05 was dedicated to the deposit of the form at the embassy of
Pakistan for obtaining a visa. Beforehand I went to the embassy of France to
have the letter of certification which I was well Mr Guy BAZIN holder of the
passport N°nnnn. I had with the employee of the consular service a pleasant
conversation of almost one hour. The deposit of the file at the counter of the
embassy of Pakistan did not support any difficulty. I paid 1260 INR for the
visa. I should take again my
passport on the 28/05 after 11:00.
I went back to my truck to go to the head office of RK Force Motors where I
had an appointment to pay the customs duties of my spare parts and to go then
to the workshop in Gurgaon. But the difficulties of the day before and
slowness administrative delayed the evaluation of it. Finally I went to the
bank around 14:30. It was too late to go to Gurgaon, consequently I turned
over to the parking of Nehru Park until following day 10:00. |
|
The 26 and the 27/05, it occurred nothing. The spare
parts were not delivered. The customs computer was broken down,
has one says me. |
