I left the expensive haven of Bhandari's Guest House under the rain beating for Panthakot
then Jammu where I stopped for the third time on the crammed carpark of the
by-pass. The following day I rejoined Srinagar by the sumptuous mountain road
with a covered and threatening weather. The road was much encumbered by
military vehicles and coaches transporting soldiers. The progression was
slowed down by these convoys which did not facilitate overtaking. In the late
afternoon I found my place at the carpark of the J&K Tourism Development Corporation. I was
accommodated there by many acquaintances. The city seemed to me very active
with many people in streets. I felt a certain febrility of the soldiers
carrying out of many identity check.

This third stay, from the 08 to August 10, in Srinagar was primarily devoted to work of
intendancy and to plan of the continuation of the journey beyond India. Temperature during the day was pleasant; it fell to 20°C in the early morning.
Moisture was rather important 65 to 70%. |

I thus left Srinagar the 11/08 to go to Leh in two days. The first bivouac was at a
hundred meters off road to 14 kilometres before Drass. The following day while
arriving in Kargil I decided to go to visit the monastery of Karsha in Zanskar.
I took the road to Padum. The road is not in very good condition, certainly
some portions are asphalted. As of 16:00 I looked for a bivouac, which is not
obvious in mountain. I found it opposite the village of Tangol. |
