From the 2006/03/18 to the 2006/03/24

--Two days in France
-- Two days in Germany
-- Two days in Czech Republic

I left the Home base in Draguignan the 18/03/06 to carry out the first part of the round the world with for objective the journey to China by visiting Mongolia beforehand.

On the initiative of Michel Wehrlé, I spent the weekend at Cyrill and Sylvie, author of guidebooks with GPS at the Takla-Makane editions. They live the hamlet of Eoulx in the "Gorges du Verdon". I collected information of their journey in Mongolia in 1999. The meeting ended with a diaporama showing superb landscapes.

Monday 20/03, I had appointment at the Garage Campagne in St Jean de Bournay to inflate a shock absorber with nitrogen which had been repaired and inflated with compressed air.
Tuesday 21/03, I stopped at UNICAT in Dettenheim close to the A5 highway for ultimate checks.
Then I moved towards Czech which I reached the 22/03 by taking the A6 highway. The traffic on the German highways was very dense and mainly made up of heavy trucks. In Nuremberg, the countryside was still covered with snow and the temperature was of approximately +2°C during the night.
At the Czech border one should not omit to buy the highway ticket.

The town of Prague is difficult access for heavy trucks. The 22/03 I stopped on a service area to a score of kilometres from Prague. As in September 2005, I succeeded in approaching the centre town which I visited the 24/03 from 9:00 to 15:00 to re-examine certain districts and to consult my email address.
I have had a blue sky with a quasi winter temperature making pleasant my strolls in bicycle.

A walk in the old Jewish ghetto enabled me to re-examine the houses built fine XIXth century according to the “Art nouveau” called “Secession”. The report of my visit in 2005 presents pictures of these residences “end of century”.

I left Prague about 16:00 to find a parking for the night on a service area of the highway from Brno to Krakow. In the early morning of the 24/03, I noted that the outside temperature was of - 6.7°C with an immensely blue sky.

The way to the Polish border was carried out on a good highway. The last ten kilometres were terrible, road with many holes. At the border, a fastidious civil servant obliged to me to take the file of the trucks. I made the tail during approximately fifteen minutes. Control related only to the passport. An end of highway prolongs the border Polish side. I stopped on a service area about 13:30 to lunch and prepare the publication of this page of my website. Road 52 from Bielsko-Biala to Cracow was in a bad state. The traffic was dense in this Friday evening. I arrived at 17:30 on the Carrefour carpark where I decided to spend the night.
