-- From Barmera to Swan Hill |
I remained four days in Barmera at the edge of the Lake Bonney. The weather was gloomy, windy and always rainy with very cold temperatures. I worked with the drafting of my website. |
Thursday August 26 I left Barmera without nostalgia so much the weather was execrable. On the move to Mildura meteorology did not improve. Before arriving the countryside covered with vineyards in winter dress. I stopped at the entry of the city on a rest area. |
Mildura is a modern city with broad quadrangular avenues whose only real sight is the Rio Vista house, former home of William B. Chaffrey, transformed into artistic centre and museum, see Gallery-4. The next days I traversed Murray River the longest river, 2700km, navigable in Australia and the third-longest in the world. Formerly paddle steamers transported goods up and down from Murray Bridge. |

No, the Murray Valley Hwy doesn't go along the river but curves between orchards of cherry trees in flowers, of citrus fruits trees charged with fruits and vine without leat. Admittedly the landscape is of great beauty but during 200km it is monotonous. I stopped at the edge of the river in Nyah behind the hippodrome. |

Perhaps by lassitude of already seeing Swan Hill did not hold my attention; admittedly there was the Murray River, but Pioneer Settlement had a back bitter taste moreover weather was covered and the site deserted by tourists. I installed me at Big4 campground out of price in low season. The next destination, Canberra |
