Ushuaia
Before leaving Rio Grande as all Mondays I published the pages of my
website not without difficulties. It took me one hour by exhausting
the battery of my laptop showing +eight years of age. Then I went to
Mercedes-Benz to announce the revision of my vehicle at the back
from Ushuaia. I asked for the E-mail address to give the exact date.
On my way on the RN #3 at the km 2919+600 m I fill the tanks with
drinking water, “cientos por ciento mineral” according to one of the
truck drivers of two present trucks. Indeed water in the cities is
strongly chlorinated. While arriving at Ushuaia at the beginning of
afternoon I was looking for a bivouac returning to the following day
my visit to the oficina de tourismo. I found it opposite the city.

On Tuesday, November 1st I collected information at the oficina de
turismo. Then at a travel agency, Freestyle Adventure Travel I asked
whether there were excursions to the Antarctic. Two voyages were
possible, one 20 days with a departure on November 5th and another
13 days with a departure on November 6th. I choose that of November
5th which gave the opportunity of seeing a greater number of
animals. Then I visited the two museums. Museo Maritimo of Ushuaia
in el Presidio is lodged in the old prison buildings. The prisoner
cells are occupied by the maritime museum, the museum of the prison,
an art gallery, the museum of the Antarctic, and the museum of
marine art. I traversed them in approximately two hours. But it had
taken one day to explore all the cells. Then I visited Museo del Fin
del Mundo and the Antigua Casa de Gobierno which expose old sea maps
of 16th, 17th and 18th centuries as well as pictures of the
beginning of last century. I returned to the bivouac of the carpark
of Sendero de Integración. It rained all the night and the day of
Wednesday was announced also rainy.

On Wednesday, November 2d was gloomy in the morning then partially
sunny in the afternoon. In the morning I made supply at
Carrefour-market then I settled at Free Style Adventure Travel to
use WiFi connection. At the beginning of afternoon I went to the
station of EL Trend del Fin del Mundo in Parque Nacional Tierra del
Fuego, Ruta #3 km 3065 [S 54° 50.084 ' W 068° 25.418 ']. The end of
the world train, also called the train of the convicts, was built
starting from 1909 by the convicts on a Decauville way of 60 cm
spacing. This train was used for the wooden supply of the
penitentiary from where it left for a 25 km trip. The tourist visit
circulates on the last 7 km along the Pipo river in the valley
surrounded by mountains. The visit lasts approximately 1:30 with
English and Spanish comments. I took the train of 15:00 with a
return to my bivouac around 17:30.

On Thursday, November 3rd I spent the morning at the Free Style
Adventure Travel agency by using WiFi connection. I received all
documents for forwarding to the Antarctic. Then at the beginning of
afternoon I went up to the Glacier Martial [S 54° 47,952' W 068°
22,204'] about 15 km
from the downtown. The weather was very cold and the way on
foot is one hour to the outward journey. I gave up this walk by
taking a picture at the beginning of the track. To heat me and not
for the effort I gave up, I took a collation with a hot chocolate at
Casa de Té. Before returning to the bivouac I bought Dramamine
against the seasickness at a pharmacy!

Expedition Cruise Antarctic Peninsula
The expedition in the Antarctic is organized by “Poseidon
Expeditions” with the boat “Sea Spirit” from 11/5/2016 to
11/25/2016. The first day is at the Arakur Hotel in Ushuaia, the
loading is envisaged the following day November 6th. I show the
route of the boat below.
I spent the day of November 4th to prepare this exceptional and
unforgettable voyage according to the Lonely-Planet guidebook.
