January 20th the flight of Air Canada landed on time. The Immigration control was very fast as French I obtained a free six month visa. At the Airport Information Kiosk a very helpful staff gave me any information to travel by the train then by bus to go to the Budget Inn Patricia Hotel where I arrived around 12:30. The weather was overcast, the temperature around 2°C and it rained. The city is very different from Tokyo moreover the district where the hotel is attended by tramps and probably doped. I settled for ten days on standby of the arrival of the Pacific Java vessel scheduled on February 1st. |

British Colombia |

British Columbia is one of the
13 states and territories of Canada. Its surface is approximately 1,7 times
that of France with a population of more than 4 million whereas France is
just 65 million inhabitants. The settlement of the country has
been attested for at least 15,000 years ago by aboriginals having crossed the
Strait of Behring. Russians, Spaniards then the inevitable Captain
Cook explored the coasts in the 18th century. It extends from the 48° of
Latitude North to the Arctic Circle and from the 123° Longitude West. |

The following day I went to the Information Centre where I spoke with a septuagenarian volunteer during more than one hour to collect information on my stay with my truck during this winter period. Moreover I had a list of questions to do shopping in this unknown city. The remainder of the day I surveyed the streets from shop to shop to buy that which I needed. On the move I took some pictures. I returned harass in the afternoon to the hotel. |

The next day I did again my shopping through the city. Then at the beginning of afternoon I went up, by the elevator, to the Vancouver Lookout for having a bird's eye view over the city. This day it did not rain in spite of a dark sky. The aspect of a city depends on the climate of its area, the BC -British Columbia- has a wet climate. The grisaille is visible in external appearance of buildings and with the difference of Tokyo no neon and no sharp colour. |

Finally I had the impression, non statistical, that social exclusion was more significant if not more visible than in Japan. |
